If you live in Kansas City and you're driving north to Chillicothe, Trenton, Princeton, or any of the Iowa border towns — or if you're coming the other way and you've been driving since dawn — there's a natural point where you start looking for a real break. That point is Carrollton, Missouri, about 65 miles northeast of downtown Kansas City and roughly halfway up the Missouri leg of US-65.
Why Carrollton is the right stop
- →It's actually on the route. No back-roading. US-65 runs straight through town, and our parking lot is fifteen seconds off the highway.
- →It's open. 24-hour front desk, 24-hour fuel station next door, a Pizza Hut next door for late-night.
- →It's quiet. Once you check in, you stop hearing the highway. Insulated windows, no train traffic, no Interstate hum.
The driving math
From the Kansas City Plaza to Westbridge Inn & Suites is about 75 minutes on a normal day. From the Westside or Liberty, it's closer to 60. Coming the other way, from Chillicothe it's 45 minutes; from Trenton, about an hour. From the Iowa border, plan for a touch over two hours.
That puts Carrollton at the right distance for a one-leg stop if you're not trying to push all the way. Old-fashioned wisdom: drive your daylight, sleep before you're tired.
What to do when you arrive
- →Eat: Pizza Hut next door, fuel-station hot food across the lot, a few sit-down spots in town until around 9 p.m.
- →Walk: Carroll County's historic square is five minutes by car, and the side streets are quiet enough for a real walk after dinner.
- →Plan: The front desk will tell you what's open early the next morning if you're rolling out before dawn — coffee at Casey's by 4:30 a.m., breakfast in the lobby by 6:00.
