Norborne — the Soybean Capital of the World
Fifteen minutes west on Route 10, Norborne wears its title proudly. Every August the Norborne Soybean Festival brings a parade, a carnival, tractor displays and half the county to Main Street. There's no hotel in Norborne — festival visitors and returning family stay with us and drive over in ten-and-a-bit minutes. Two-queen rooms and the Three-Bedroom Family Suite handle the reunion crowds, and kids under 18 stay free.
Waverly — apples on the river bluffs
Twenty minutes south, where US-65 meets the Missouri River, Waverly's orchards have drawn fall visitors for generations. October weekends smell like apple cider and woodsmoke. Pair an orchard morning with an afternoon tasting at Baltimore Bend Vineyard just up the road — then sleep it all off in a quiet room back in Carrollton.
Sumner — a forty-foot goose named Maxie
Northeast of us near Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge sits Sumner, the self-declared Wild Goose Capital of the World, guarded by Maxie — the world's largest goose statue, forty feet of concrete waterfowl. The Wild Goose Festival each October coincides with the migration at Swan Lake. Hunting parties book our family suite, leave before dawn through the ground-floor exit, and find the coffee already on.
Brunswick & Keytesville — pecans and generals
East along Route 24: Brunswick is the Pecan Capital of Missouri, home of the World's Largest Pecan and roadside stands selling this year's crop. Ten more minutes brings you to Keytesville and the Sterling Price Museum, marking the Civil War general's hometown. Together they make the county's best small-town day loop — about thirty minutes from our parking lot.
Hale, Bosworth, Tina, DeWitt, Bogard, Wakenda
The quiet heart of Carroll County. Grain elevators, white churches, family land that's been worked for five generations. Nobody visits these towns as a tourist — you visit because your people are there. When the farmhouse is full, we're the guest room: fifteen to twenty-five minutes from every one of them, with a 24-hour front desk for late arrivals and free breakfast before the drive back out.
Miami — the river bottoms
Southwest across the Missouri River bottoms, Miami is the put-in for anglers and paddlers, and the neighbor of Van Meter State Park with its burial mounds, boardwalk marsh and fishing lake. Twenty-five minutes from us, with truck-and-trailer parking that doesn't require a twelve-point turn.
Eat like a local while you're here
Pizza Hut is literally next door to the hotel. The 24-hour fuel stop past it covers midnight arrivals. But give the courthouse square five minutes of your time — Carrollton's diners and the Mexican spot downtown are where the county actually eats, and our front desk keeps the menus and the honest rankings.
